Assumptions & Footnotes
Expected Market Returns
historical market return does not guarantee future performances. This calculator assumes a positive normalized average return each year using historical data, however this is not guaranteed.
Inflation
due to the complex interconnected factors such as supply & demand, monetary policy, geo-political events, natural disasters, consumer behaviours, etc. inflation is difficult to predict. We can only use historical data averages as a best guess for the future, however it is also not guaranteed.
Debt Handling
this calculator currently assumes your existing debt does not incur interest, so the balance will remain constant. A future update will add support for debt interest.
Taxes
due to the complexity and variability of regional tax laws and calculations, this calculator does not consider taxes at any point in time.
Income and Expenses
this calculator assumes your income and expense to be consistent throughout the projection period. This also means your expenses after FIRE is expected to be the same as today, in another words this FIRE number assumes maintaining your current lifestyle & expenses. A future update will allow you to enter expected expenses for when you retire.
Assets
this currently calculator assumes your "Other Assets" do not appreciate or depreciate.
Time Value of Money (TVM)
this calculator projects your future networth in Real Value (today's value/inflation adjusted) based on the inflation rate you enter.
FIRE Age & Date
the time when you can FIRE is currently based on when your Investments (assets that can generate an income) is greater than your FIRE Number.
